Canada/Ottawa: Freybe Gourmet Foods Limited, a Langley, British Columbia establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Freybe branded Pepperoni Smoked Sausage Sticks from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected metal fragment and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction/perforation and sepsis, all serious health and safety hazards.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Sausage Meat products are subject to this Quick Look recall:

  • Freybe branded Pepperoni Smoked Sausage Sticks, sold in 500 gram packages with a best-before date code of 2024 MA 30, an establishment code of 361 and a UPC of 0 64359 73250
  • Freybe branded Pepperoni Smoked Sausage Sticks, sold in two (2) kilogram packages with a best-before date code of 2024 MA 30 and an establishment code of 361

Logo - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency ("CFIA")These Sausage Meat products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country including over the Web. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

In general, if glass, plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Freybe branded Pepperoni Smoked Sausage Sticks, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction/perforation and sepsis.
