Canada/Ottawa: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”), an Ottawa, Ontario regulatory and food safety authority, recalls certain batch/lots of Pacific Oysters due to suspected risk of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (“PSP”) contamination and consequential risk of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, tingling or burning lips, gums, tongue, face, neck, arms, legs, and toes.

Other symptoms of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning can include shortness of breath, dry mouth, a choking feeling, confused or slurred speech, and loss of coordination, all serious health hazards. In addition, PSP can be fatal in extreme cases, particularly in immunocompromised individuals. Children seem to be more susceptible to Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning, perhaps because their immune systems are not fully developed.
