Canada/Ottawa: Five Corners Meat Company Ltd., a Chilliwack, British Columbia establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Canada 653 branded Ground Beef and Pork Meat from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected plastic fragment contamination and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction/perforation and sepsis, all serious health and safety hazards.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Meat products are subject to this Quick Look recall:

  • Canada 653 branded Medium Ground Beef Pork Blend, sold in variable size packages with a best-before date code of 24/03/22 and a UPC that contains “16697”
  • Canada 653 branded Regular Ground Beef, sold in 454 gram (~one-pound) packages with a best-before date code of 24/03/22 and a UPC of 0 062639 375195
  • Canada 653 branded Extra Lean Ground Beef, sold in 454 gram (~one-pound) packages with a best-before date code of 24/03/22 and a UPC of 0 062639 375201
  • Canada 653 branded Lean Ground Beef, sold in 454 gram ~(one-pound) packages with a best-before date code of 24/03/22 and a UPC of 0 056364 902603

When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

In general, if glass, plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Canada 653 branded Ground Beef and/or Pork Meat products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction/perforation and sepsis.
