Canada FlagCanada/Ottawa: Maple Leaf Foods Inc., a Toronto, Ontario establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Maple Leaf branded Canned Vienna Sausage products from the Canadian marketplace due to bulging cans posing possible spoilage and consequential risks of bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Vienna Sausage products are subject to this recall:

  • Maple Leaf branded Vienna Sausage, sold in 113 gram cans; affected batch/lots: all best-before date codes up to and including 2025 AU 24 (i.e. August 24, 2025) with a partial UPC of 0 636191 8

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation.

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Vienna Sausage products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Sausage identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Maple Leaf branded Vienna Sausage products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Botulism, Listeriosis, Salmonellosis or Escherichia Coli (“E. Coli”).
