Food Recall: Cedar Phoenicia Pindjur Vegetable Spreads

Canada/Ottawa: Groupe Phoenicia Inc., a Montreal, Quebec establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Cedar Phoenicia branded Pindjur Vegetable Spreads from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected glass fragment contamination and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and sepsis, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Vegetable Spreads are subject to this recall:

  • Phoenicia branded Pindjur Vegetable Spread, sold in 500 ml jars with a best-before date code 2024 AU 19, a batch/lot code of L 21231 EU and a UPC of 0 62356 50221 8

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Vegetable Spreads were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Ontario and Quebec, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Logo - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency ("CFIA")According to the CFIA, Groupe Phoenicia has recalled certain batch/lots of Cedar Phoenicia Pindjur Vegetable Spreads from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected glass fragment contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Vegetable Spreads identified above.

In general, if glass, plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Cedar Phoenicia branded Pindjur Vegetable Spreads, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and sepsis.
