Achdut, Achva, Baron’s & Pepperwood Tahini Recall [US]

US/Silver Spring: Achdut Limited, an Ariel, Israel establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Tahini due to suspected risk of Salmonella contamination and consequential risk of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Tahini products are subject to this recall:

• Achdut, Achva, Baron’s, Pepperwood, S&F and Soom branded Tahini, Whole Tahini, Organic Tahini and Seasoned Tahini products sold in 15-ounce, 16-ounce, 17.6-ounce, 635-ounce (428 gram, 454 gram, 500 gram and 18 kilogram), with batch/lot numbers ranging from 18-097 to 18-141 or with expiration dates April 7th to May 21st 2020.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, Achdut is collaborating with health officials in connection with a positive finding of Salmonella in a US import sample of Achdut Tahini linked to a Salmonella outbreak that is currently being investigated by FDA and public health officials.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Tahini, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Tahini to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
