Vehicle Recall: Toyota RAV4 SUVs

Canada/Ottawa: Transport Canada, an Ottawa, Ontario regulatory and safety authority, recalls an estimated 14,570 model year 2004 and 2005 Toyota RAV4 Sport Utility Vehicles (“SUVs”) marketed, sold and delivered in Canada.

On certain Toyota SUVs, the Driver’s (Frontal) Airbag Inflator has a potential for intrusion of moisture over time due to insufficient air sealing.

Transport Canada reports this defect could result in the Inflator rupturing during a deployment, and/or an abnormal deployment of the Driver’s (Frontal) Airbag during a crash (where deployment is warranted).

If this defect occurs, it could increase the risk of injury to the seat occupant in the event of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

==> No VINs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

Proposed Remedy:
Toyota Canada will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to an Authorized Dealership to replace the Driver’s (Frontal) Air Bag Inflator with an updated part.
