US/Silver Spring: MG Foods, a Melbourne. Florida establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of S&S Ham & Cotija Torta Sandwiches from the American marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination and consequential risks of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Torta Sandwiches are subject to this recall:

• S&S Ham & Cotija Torta Sandwiches on Telera Rolls, sold in 8.3-ounce (234 gram) plastic packages with a use-by date ranging from 02/09/24 to 02/16/24 with a UPC of 100001002017

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled prepared Torta Sandwiches can be found on the Web site above.

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These S&S Ham & Cotija Torta Sandwiches were known to be marketed, distributed and sold from vending machines and grab-and-go retail market locations in the US state of Florida, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the FDA, MG Foods has recalled certain batch/lots of S&S Ham & Cotija Torta Sandwiches from the American marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled prepared Sandwiches identified above.

In this case, this recall was initiated after Rizo-López Cheeses Foods, Inc. recalled certain batch/lots of Cotija Cheese due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. MG Foods used the recalled Cotija Cheese as an ingredient for its Torta Sandwiches sold in stores and vending machines.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled S&S Ham & Cotija Torta Sandwiches, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the prepared Torta Sandwiches to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Listeriosis.
