Food Recall: Costco Rojo’s Black Bean 6-Layer Dip

US/Silver Spring: Simply Fresh LLC., a Buena Park, California establishment, recalls an estimated 7,350 cases of Rojo’s Black Bean 6-Layer Dip Club Packs sold at Costco Warehouse Stores from the American marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination and consequential risks of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Black Bean Dip products are subject to this recall:

• Rojo’s Black Bean 6-Layer Dip Club Packs, sold in two (2)- 20-ounce round plastic tubs with a best-if-used-by date of 02/06/24, 02/14/24, 02/16/24, 02/21/24, 02/23/24, 02/29/24, 03/02/24, 03/07/24, 03/09/24, 03/14/24, 03/21/24 or 03/22/24

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. Additional images of the recalled Black Bean Dip products can be found on the Web site above.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Rojo’s Black Bean 6-Layer Dip Club Packs were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the US states of Alabama, Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Washington and Utah, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the FDA, Simply Fresh LLC. has recalled an estimated 7,350 cases of Rojo’s Black Bean 6-Layer Dip Club Packs sold at Costco Warehouse Stores from the American marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Black Bean Dip products identified above.

In this case, this recall was initiated after Rizo-López Cheeses Foods, Inc. recalled certain batch/lots of Cotija Cheese due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. Simply Fresh used the recalled Cotija Cheese as a primary ingredient in its Rojos branded Black Bean Layer Dips with the date codes listed above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Rojo’s Black Bean 6-Layer Dip Club Pack, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Bean Dips to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Listeriosis.
