Food Recall: Qilu Enterprise Enoki Mushrooms

US/Silver Spring: Jan Fruits Inc., a Vernon, California establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Enoki Mushrooms (Product of Taiwan) from the American marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination and consequential risks of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Enoki Mushroom products are subject to this recall:

• Jan Fruits branded Enoki Mushroom (Product of Taiwan), sold in 200 gram (~7.05-ounce)  clear plastic packages with the designation “Taiwan Best Quality Enoki Natural Mushroom: Manufacturer: Changhua County Mushrooms Production Cooperative” and “Distributor Jan Fruits Inc.” a batch/lot designation of 3779 and a UPC of 8 51084 00835 8.

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Enoki Mushroom products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the US states of California and Hawaii, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country through further wholesale and retail activities. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the FDA, Jan Fruits initiated after notification from the State of Hawaii revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Enoki Mushrooms, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Mushrooms to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial such as Listeriosis.
