US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Sofia Produce, LLC doing business as Trufresh, a Nogales, Arizona establishment, recalls multiple batch/lots of Malichita branded Fresh Cantaloupe Fruit products from the American marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Fresh Uncut Cantaloupe Fruit products are subject to this recall:

  • Malichita branded Fresh Uncut Cantaloupe Fruit, sold with order dates ranging from October 16, 2023 to October 23, 2023, and order number of 0128556, 0128624, 0128630, 0128632, 0128640, 0128643, 0128644, 0128646, 0128648, 0128651, -0128656, 0128669, 0128680, 0128682, 0128683, 0128700, 0225200, 0225201, 0225206, 0225214, 0225219, 0225222, 0225226, 0225227, 0225228, 0419611, 0419629, 0419630, 0419636, 0419671, 0419688, 0419693, 0419696, 0419697, 0419704, 0419710, 0419718, 0419772, 0516255, 0516268, 0516271, 0516279, 0516301, 0612143, 0612144, 0612148, 0612154, 0612156, 0612158, 0612171, 0612190, 0612191, 0612197, 0612198, 0612209 or 0612225

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Uncut Cantaloupe Fruit products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the US states of Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country.

Logo - US Food and Drug Administration ("FDA")According to the FDA, Sofia Produce doing business as Trufresh has recalled multiple batch/lots of Malichita branded Fresh Cantaloupe Fruit products from the American marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled fruit products identified above.

In this case, this recall was initiated after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) announced a similar recall of Cantaloupes packaged with the same Malichita label and bearing the same PLU due to possible Salmonella contamination for Cantaloupes sold to Fruits et Légumes Gaétan Bono.

Trufresh’s investigation has revealed that the above-listed order numbers may have been associated with the cantaloupes sold to Fruits et Légumes Gaétan Bono.

Please note: while these Malichita branded Fresh Cantaloupe Fruit products may be close to or past their use-by dates, they may be in your freezers or storage chillers. If you have purchased these fresh fruit products during the time period ranging from September 1, 2023 and November 9, 2023, please check your refrigerators, chillers and/or freezers to ensure these food products have not been stored for future consumption. If found, these products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Malichita branded Fresh Cantaloupe Fruit products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the fruit products to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Salmonellosis.
