US FlagUS/Silver Spring: WanaBana USA, a Wilmington, Delaware establishment, recalls multiple batch/lots of WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Purée Snacks from the American marketplace due to suspected Lead contamination and consequential risks of developmental delay, learning difficulties, weight loss, abdominal pain, vomiting, seizures, hearing loss and other GI tract complications in children and hypertension (high blood pressure), joint and muscle pain, difficulties with memory or concentration, headache, abdominal pain, mood disorders, genetic and/or mutagenic complications in adult males and miscarriage, stillbirth or premature birth in pregnant females, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Fruit Purée Snacks are subject to this recall:

  • WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Purée Pouches, sold in three (3)-pack pouches of 2.5-ounces with the following batch/lots (sorted in numeric order):

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Purée Snacks were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in all US states, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Logo - US Food and Drug Administration ("FDA")According to the FDA, WanaBana USA has recalled multiple batch/lots of WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Purée Snacks from the American marketplace due to suspected Lead contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Fruit Purée Snacks identified above.

In this case, this recall was initiated after four (4) illnesses have been reported to date, leading the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to investigate and sample the pouches. North Carolina’s analyses showed certain Fruit Purée Snacks with elevated concentrations of Lead, posing risks of acute toxicity.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Purée Snacks, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the processed Fruit products to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat Lead contamination.
