US FlagUS/Washington: Hillshire Brands Company, a St. Joseph, Missouri establishment, recalls an estimated 15,876 pounds of Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausage made with Pork, Turkey, Beef from the American marketplace due to suspected bone fragment contamination and consequential risks of risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and sepsis, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Smoked Sausage products were produced on or about June 14, 2023 are subject to this recall:

  • Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausages made with Pork, Turkey and Beef, sold in 14-ounce clear Cryovac packages containing one (1) Sausage rope with a batch/lot code within the range of “EST. 756A 20 19:00:00 through 21:59:59 and EST. 756A 21 19:00:00 through 21:59:59” in the form of the establishment number, line number and time of production in the form of hours:minutes:seconds as well as a use-by date of Nov 11 23.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Pork, Turkey, Beef Sausage products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the US states of California, Maryland, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Logo - United States Department of Agriculture ("USDA") According to the USDA, when Hillshire Brands Company notified FSIS that it received an unspecified number of consumer complaints regarding bone fragments in the product. Also, FSIS received one (1) consumer complaint regarding this problem directly. There has been one (1) reported oral injury associated with consumption of this product.

In general, if glass, plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausages made with Pork, Turkey and Beef, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and sepsis.
