Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: Your Capability Store, a Kunda Park, Queensland establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Neodymium Magnet Ball Toys from the Australian marketplace due to suspected failure to comply with Australia’s maximum allowable magnetic flux index set by the permanent ban on certain small, high powered magnets and consequential ingestion, intestinal perforation and internal laceration with risks of severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious safety hazards, requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Magnet Ball Toys are subject to this recall:

  • Neodymium Magnet Ball Toys, consisting of 216 – five (5) mm colourful magnetic balls that move and crunch together for stress relief and/or play

==> No barcodes, APNs, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Neodymium Magnet Ball Toys are thought to have been marketed, distributed and sold in all Australian states although it is always possible these toys had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the Neodymium Magnet Ball Toys design and retail presentation.

According to the ACCC, these Neodymium Magnet Ball Toys contain small, high-powered magnets. As such, the product exceeds the maximum allowable magnetic flux index set by the permanent ban on certain small, high powered magnets, prescribed in Australia’s Consumer Protection Notice No 5 of 2012 ‘Imposition of permanent ban on small, high powered magnets’.

If a child swallows more than one small high powered magnet, the magnets can stick together across the walls of the child’s intestine or other digestive tissue, which can lead to internal injuries and even death. These magnets may need emergency surgical intervention to remove. Further, the magnets may pose a choking hazard to young children due to small parts.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Neodymium Magnet Ball Toys, please do not use them nor let your child play with or near them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store or outlet where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 0-0-0, your closest hospital or emergency centre equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage.
