Canada/Ottawa: Best Express Foods Inc., a Stockton, California establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Universal Bakery branded Organic Aussie Bites from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected mislabeling and undeclared Gluten, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious health and safety hazard requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Snack Foods are subject to this recall:

  • Universal Bakery branded Organic Aussie Bites, sold in 850 gram (~30 ounces) packages with a best-before date code of 24 AU 28, a batch/lot code of BEF2 135 05 24 and a UPC of 7 31216 10398 7

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Snack Foods can be found on the Web site above.

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Universal Bakery branded Organic Aussie Bites were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Snacks

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Universal Bakery branded Organic Aussie Bites and could be allergic to their Gluten ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat Anaphylaxis.
