Product Recall: True Manufacturing Commercial Refrigerators

US/Bethesda & Mexico/Mexico City: True Manufacturing Co. Inc., an O’Fallon, Missouri establishment (for the Commercial Refrigerators), and Secop GmbH, a Germany establishment (for the Compressors), recall an estimated 29,250 True Manufacturing Commercial Refrigerators with Secop Compressors (approximately 29,200 in the United States and 50 in Mexico) from the American and Mexican marketplace due to suspected overheating hazard with consequential risks of burns, scalds, smoke inhalation, respiratory failure and/or cardiac system collapse, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves certain Commercial Refrigerators marketed, sold and delivered in the United States, as follows:

• True Manufacturing Commercial Refrigerators with Secop Compressors, sold with a model number NLE11MN through corporate channels to commercial customers and to the commercial food service companies. The recalled Commercial Refrigerators are both black and stainless steel style/colors in double, triple, and sliding door configuration. The model and serial numbers are printed on a label located inside the Commercial Refrigerator Cabinet by the left door, as follows:

• • True Commercial Refrigerators, sold with a model number of GDIM-49NT with a serial number within the range between 9466976 and 10040916
  • True Commercial Refrigerators, sold with a model number of GDM-45 with a serial number within the range between 9344197 and 10010080
  • True Commercial Refrigerators, sold with a model number of GDM-47 with a serial number within the range between 9300299 and 10010063
  • True Commercial Refrigerators, sold with a model number of GDM-47FC with a serial number within the range between 9344301 and 10010081
  • True Commercial Refrigerators, sold with a model number of GDM-47RL with a serial number within the range between 9342885 and 10049968
  • True Commercial Refrigerators, sold with a model number of GDM-49 with a serial number within the range between 9301457 and 10009796
  • True Commercial Refrigerators, sold with a model number of GDM-49FC with a serial number within the range between 9343416 and 9994430
  • True Commercial Refrigerators, sold with a model number of GDM-49RL with a serial number within the range between 9347552 and 10049976
  • True Commercial Refrigerators, sold with a model number of GDM-69 with a serial number within the range between 9302194 and 10049977
  • True Commercial Refrigerators, sold with a model number of GDM-69FC with a serial number within the range between 9368706 and 10042783
  • True Commercial Refrigerators, sold with a model number of GDM-72 with a serial number within the range between 9303855 and 10048931
  • True Commercial Refrigerators, sold with a model number of GDM-72FC with a serial number within the range between 9346330 and 10048907
  • True Commercial Refrigerators, sold with a model number of T-49G with a serial number within the range between 9789525 and 9872836
  • True Commercial Refrigerators, sold with a model number of TSD-47 with a serial number within the range between 9364752 and 10042789
  • True Commercial Refrigerators, sold with a model number of TSD-47G with a serial number within the range between 9342889 and 10049972

==> No barcodes, UPCs, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, the recalled Commercial Refrigerators with Secop Compressors can suffer an in-use failure in a manner causing the Compressor to overheat. If this defect occurs, it poses risks of burns, scalds, smoke inhalation, respiratory failure and/or cardiac system collapse to people who utilize the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use.

In this case, this recall was initiated after True Manufacturing Co. Inc. received fourteen (14) reports of fires resulting in property damage. As of press time, no injuries had been reported.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled True Manufacturing Commercial Refrigerators with installed Secop Compressors, please do not use them. Instead, kindly contact True Manufacturing for a free repair. The original Secop ePTC Starter in the Compressor with the RSCR Motor Configuration will be replaced with the CSIR Motor Configuration.

Owners can register your unit for retrofit at http://www.true-secopcompressor-retrofit.com or at http://www.true-secopcompressor-recall.com and an on-site service visit by a technician will be scheduled. True Manufacturing is also contacting all known purchasers directly.
