Vehicle Recall: Hyundai IONIQ and Genesis Sedans & SUVs

US/Washington: As of Thursday, March 21, 2024, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”), a division of the US Department of Transportation, has posted a total of fifty-nine (59) vehicle, tire, accessory or other automotive-related product recalls this month. Among the fifty-nine (59) recalls the NHTSA announced in March comes news of the following notification:

Hyundai Motor America (“Hyundai”), a Fountain Valley, California establishment and a subsidiary of Hyundai Motors of Seoul, South Korea, has recalled an estimated 98,878 model year 2022-2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5, 2023-2024 Hyundai IONIQ 6, Hyundai Genesis GV60, Hyundai Genesis GV70 Electrified, and Hyundai Genesis GV80 Electrified Sedans and Sport Utility Vehicles (“SUVs”) marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Electrical System – Loss of drive power from damaged Charging Unit

NHTSA Safety Notification 24V204000 reports the Integrated Charging Control Unit (“ICCU”) may become damaged and stop charging the 12-Volt Battery. If this defect occurs, it can result in a loss of drive power for the vehicle.

According to the NHTSA, a loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Hyundai Dealers will will inspect and replace the ICCU and its Fuse, as necessary. In addition, Dealers will update the ICCU Software. All repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 14, 2024.
