Food Recall: Block & Barrel Chicken Base Paste

Canada/Ottawa: Aliments Luda Foods Inc., a Pointe-Claire, Quebec establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Block & Barrel branded Chicken Base Paste from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected plastic and metal fragment contamination and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction/perforation and sepsis, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Chicken Seasoning products are subject to this recall:

• Block & Barrel branded Chicken Base Paste, sold in 450 gram packages with a batch/lot designation of 2402060063 and a UPC of 7 34730 07441 2

These Seasoning products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Quebec, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

In general, if glass, plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Block & Barrel branded Chicken Base Paste products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction/perforation and sepsis.
