Vehicle Recall: Audi & Volkswagen Sedans

US/Washington: As of Thursday, February 22, 2024, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”), a division of the US Department of Transportation, has posted a total of sixty-nine (69) vehicle, tire, accessory or other automotive-related product recalls this month. Among the sixty-nine (69) recalls the NHTSA has announced in February comes news of the following:

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (“Volkswagen”), an Auburn Hills, Michigan establishment and subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group of Wolfsburg, Germany, has recalled an estimated 261,257 model year front-wheel drive 2015-2020 Audi A3 Sedan, 2015-2019 Audi A3 Cabriolet, 2019-2020 Volkswagen Jetta GLI, 2018 Golf Sportwagen GP, 2018-2019 Golf Sportwagen A7, 2015-2017 Golf Sportwagen, 2015-2020 Golf GTI and 2015-2020 Golf A7 Sedans marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Fuel System, Gasoline – Fuel leak from Fuel Tank Suction Pump failure

NHTSA Safety Notification 24V110000 reports due to a problem with a Suction Jet Pump Seal inside the Fuel Tank, fuel may flow into the Evaporative Emissions (“EVAP”) System and possibly leak out of the Charcoal Canister.

According to the NHTSA, a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increase the risk of a fire, explosion, burns and/or smoke inhalation with consequential life-changing or life-ending results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat burns, scalds, explosive blast injury, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory and/or cardiac injury.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Volkswagen and Audi Dealers will replace the suction pump, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 12, 2024.

Volkswagen’s designation for this recall id 20UF while its designation for Audi vehicles is 20YF.

Please note: Volkswagen and Audi vehicles that were previously recalled under NHTSA 16V-647 will need to have the new remedy completed.
