Vehicle Recall: Hyundai Genesis G70, G80 & G90 Sedans

US/Washington: As of Friday, February 16, 2024, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”), a division of the US Department of Transportation, has posted a total of fifty-seven (57) vehicle, tire, accessory or other automotive-related product recalls this month. Among the fifty-seven (57) recalls the NHTSA has announced in February comes news of the following:

Hyundai Motor America (“Hyundai”), a Fountain Valley, California establishment and a subsidiary of Hyundai Motors of Seoul, South Korea, has recalled an estimated 90,907 model year 2015-2016 Hyundai Genesis, 2017-2019 Genesis G80, Genesis G90 and 2019 Genesis G70 Sedans marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Electrical System – Water damage to Starter Solenoid may cause fire

NHTSA Safety Notification 24V107000 reports that water may enter the Starter Solenoid and cause an electrical short. If this defect occurs, it can result in an Engine Compartment fire while parked or driving.

According to the NHTSA, an Engine Compartment fire or explosion while parked or driving can increase the risk of serious injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat burns, scalds, explosive blast injury, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory and/or cardiac injury.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Hyundai Dealers will will install a remedy Relay Kit in the Engine Junction Box, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 13, 2024.

Owners may contact Hyundai Customer Service toll-free at 1-855-371-9460 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) for more information. Hyundai’s designations for this recall are 254(H) (for Hyundai vehicles) and 018G(G) for Genesis vehicles

==> Owner/operators of the recalled Hyundai and Genesis Sedans are advised to park outside and away from structures, including garages, carports, sheds and car barns, until the recall repair is successfully completed and certified by the Authorized Dealer.
