Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: IKEA Pty Limited, a Tempe, New South Wales establishment and a subsidiary of Netherlands-based furnishings retailer, INGKA Holdings BV, recalls all current batch/lots of IKEA ÅSKSTORM 40W USB Chargers due to suspected power cable integrity failure with consequential risks of electric shock, electrocution, burns, respiratory failure and/or cardiac system collapse, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports this recall involves certain Power Chargers, as follows:

  • IKEA ÅSKSTORM 40W USB Chargers, sold in dark grey colour with a model number of ICPSW5-40-1 and an IKEA product number of 304.611.94

==> No barcodes, APNs, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These IKEA ÅSKSTORM 40W USB Chargers were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in all Australian states but could also have distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Logo - Australian Competition & Consumer Commission ("ACCC")According to the ACCC, IKEA Pty has recalled all current batch/lots of IKEA ÅSKSTORM 40W USB Chargers due to suspected power cable integrity failure with consequential risks of electric shock, electrocution, burns, respiratory failure and/or cardiac system collapse.

Specifically, the recalled the Power Cables of the recalled USB Chargers can be damaged or become broken. If this defect occurs, it can expose operators and/or those nearby to live electrical parts of the Cable. Further, there is a risk of burn injuries or death from electric shock if someone touches a damaged cable that is live with electricity. There is also a risk of damage to property if the Charger catches fire.

According to the ACCC, incidents have occurred where Cables became damaged and caused electric shock and burn injuries to consumers.
