Food Recall: Quaker Harvest Crunch & Cap’n Crunch Cereals

Canada/Ottawa: Quaker Canada, a Trenton, Ontario establishment and subsidiary of PepsiCo Canada, a Toronto, Ontario establishment and itself a division of PepsiCo, Inc. of Purchase, New York, recalls certain batch/lots of various Quaker Harvest Crunch branded Cereal and Snack Bars as well as Cap’n Crunch branded Treat Bars from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These processed Cereal products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, Quaker Canada has recalled certain batch/lots of various Quaker Harvest Crunch branded Cereal and Snack Bars as well as Cap’n Crunch branded Treat Bars from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Salmonella c ontamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Cereal and Snack Bars identified above.

In this case, this Canadian recall was initiated as a direct result of a recall initiated in the United States by the Quaker Oats Company.

==> For information about Salmonellosis (Salmonella poisoning), please consult the “Illnesses” tab on this site, located at the top of this page.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Quaker Harvest Crunch branded Cereal and Snack Bars as well as Cap’n Crunch branded Treat Bars, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Salmonellosis.
