Among the ninety-nine (99) recalls the NHTSA announced this past December came news of the following:

Logo - Hyundai Motor America ("Hyundai")Hyundai Motor America (“Hyundai”), a Fountain Valley, California establishment and a subsidiary of Hyundai Motors of Seoul, South Korea, has recalled an estimated 10,984 model year 2024 Hyundai Kona Sport Utility Vehicles (“SUVs”) marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Electrical System – Engine Compartment fire from short circuit

NHTSA Safety Notification 23V901000 reports the 12-Volt Battery Cables may chafe against the vehicle’s Engine Control Module Bracket and short circuit during a crash.

According to the NHTSA, a short circuit increases the risk of an Engine Compartment fire, explosion, burns and/or smoke inhalation with consequential life-changing or life-ending results.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Hyundai Dealers will install Sheathing over the Wiring, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 23, 2024.

Owners may contact Hyundai Customer Service toll-free at 1-855-371-9460 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) for more information. Hyundai’s designation for this recall is 252.
