Logo - Transport CanadaEstimated reading time: seven (7) minutes

Canada FlagCanada/Ottawa: Transport Canada, an Ottawa, Ontario regulatory and safety authority, recalls an estimated 40,603 model year 2010 to 2012 Nissan Versa Hatchbacks and 2010 to 2011 Versa Sedans marketed, sold and delivered in Canada.

On the affected Nissan vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag.

Logo - Nissan CanadaIf this defect occurs, it could cause the vehicle’s Airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants Airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the Airbag Assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function.

This reported defect could increase the risk of consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results in the event of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event.

Nissan will notify affected Versa owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to an Authorized Dealership to replace the Passenger Frontal Airbag Inflator.

Nissan ‘s designation listed for this recall is PM823.

Please note: that Canadian climate results in the Airbag propellant degrading slowly. The recall is, therefore, being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace Airbag Inflators before their function would be affected.

Please also note: this recall affects 2010 to 2012 Versa Hatchback models and 2010 to 2011 Versa Sedan models. The 2012 model year Nissan Versa sedan is currently not involved in this recall.
