Among the ninety-nine (99) recalls the NHTSA announced this past December came news of the following:

Kia Motors America (“Kia”), an Irvine, California establishment and a subsidiary of Kia Motors Corporation of Seoul, South Korea, has recalled an estimated 79,812 model year 2011 Kia Sorento Sport Utility Vehicles (“SUVs”) marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Engine – Engine Compartment Fire

Safety Notification 23V877000 reports an Engine Compartment fire can occur while driving.

According to the NHTSA, a fire increases the risks of explosion, burns and/or smoke inhalation with consequential life-changing or life-ending results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat burns, scalds, explosive blast injury, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory and/or cardiac injury.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Kia Dealers will install Knock Sensor Detection System (“KSDS”) Software and replace the Engine as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 9, 2024.
