US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Reckitt/Mead Johnson Nutrition (“MJN”), a Parsippany, New Jersey establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Nutramigen Hypoallergenic Infant Formula Powder products from the American marketplace due to possible Cronobacter sakazakii (formally known as Enterobacter sakazakii) contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness including sepsis and meningitis and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Baby Formula products are subject to this recall:

  • Nutramigen Hypoallergenic Infant Formula Powder, an baby formula product designed for the dietary management of Cows Milk Allergy (“CMA”) sold in 12.6-ounce and 19.8-ounce cans with a batch/lot of ZL3FRW, ZL3FPE, ZL3FXJ, ZL3FQD, ZL3FMH or ZL3FHG, a use-by date of 1 Jan 2025 with a UPC of 300871239418 or 300871239456

==> No NDCs, DINs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Nutramigen Hypoallergenic Infant Formula Powder products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in all US states, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Logo - US Food and Drug Administration ("FDA")According to the FDA, Reckitt/Mead Johnson Nutrition (“MJN”) has recalled certain batch/lots of Nutramigen Hypoallergenic Infant Formula Powder products from the American marketplace due to possible Cronobacter sakazakii (formally known as Enterobacter sakazakii) contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Powdered Baby Food products identified above.

In this case, this recall was initiated after a possibility of contamination with Cronobacter sakazakii in product sampled outside the United States was found. The company says all Baby Formula sold in the US was tested by MJN and found negative for the bacteria.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Nutramigen Hypoallergenic Infant Formula Powder products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Cronobacter sakazakii.
