Canada/Ottawa: Newell Brands Canada ULC., a Brampton, Ontario establishment, recalls an estimated 4,700 bottles of the Elmer’s Rubber Cement from the Canadian marketplace due to reported failure to meet  the  requirements of Canada’a Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 (CCCR, 2001) and consequential risks of flammability, fire, burns, scalds, smoke inhalation, respiratory failure, cardiac system collapse and/or property damage, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports the following Rubber Cement products subject to this recall:

  • Elmer’s Rubber Cement, sold in 118 mL (~4 fluid ounce) bottles with a batch/lot code of E20A139R and a UPC of 00061550608184

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Elmer’s Rubber Cement products may have been marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces, although it is always possible these Adhesive products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Logo - Health Canada/Santé CanadaAccording to Health Canada, Newell Brands Canada ULC has recalled an estimated 4,700 bottles of the Elmer’s Rubber Cement from the Canadian marketplace due to reported failure to meet  the  requirements of Canada’a Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 (CCCR, 2001) and consequential risks of flammability.

In this case, this recall was initiated after it was reported that Health Canada’s compliance verification program determined that the batch/lot identified above does not meet the requirements of Canada’s Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 (CCCR, 2001). Specifically, testing showed that batch/lot E20A139R of the product was rated as “very flammable.”

==> Under Canada’s Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001, the manufacture, import, advertisement or sale of a “very flammable” product is prohibited.

The highly flammable nature of the product could result in unintentional exposure to the product and lead to serious illness, injury or death.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Elmer’s Rubber Cement, please do not use them. Instead, immediately dispose of the recalled product in accordance with local municipal hazardous waste requirements taking care to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (“PPE”) as appropriate.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat unintentional product exposure, inhalation pneumonia and/or contact dermatitis,.
