AAustralia Flagustralia/Canberra: Popping Candy International Pty Ltd, a Bomaderry, New South Wales establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Music Boxes from the Australian marketplace due to suspected failure to comply with requirements of Australia’s mandatory standard ‘Consumer Protection Notice No. 14 of 2003 – Consumer Product Safety Standard: Toys for children up to and including 36 months of age’ and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, ingestion,  GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-changing injury.

Additional information:
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Children’s Toys are subject to this recall:

  • Popping Candy Music Boxes, consisting of novelty music toys containing a small “button” battery, sold with the company’s Hot Chocolate Design branded shoes.

==> No barcodes, APNs, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Popping Candy Music Boxes are thought to have been marketed, distributed and sold in all Australian states, although it is always possible these Toy products had wider distribution outside the country, particularly over the Web. When in doubt, please contact the company for specific product information.

Logo - Australian Competition & Consumer Commission ("ACCC")According to the ACCC, Popping Candy International Pty Ltd. has recalled certain batch/lots of Music Boxes from the Australian marketplace due to suspected failure to comply with requirements of Australia’s mandatory standard ‘Consumer Protection Notice No. 14 of 2003 – Consumer Product Safety Standard: Toys for children up to and including 36 months of age.

Due to this reported defect, small objects could find their way into a young child’s throat and pose choking and/or suffocation hazards and, if placed in the mouth and/or swallowed, pose serious risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and death.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Popping Candy Music Boxes, please do not use them nor let your children play with or near them. Instead, kindly dispose of the Music Box and battery safely. At all times, store the Toys out of reach of children. Retailers accepting returns of this product for safe disposal include B-cycle, Battery World, Bunnings, Planet Ark and Woolworths.
