Food Recall: Wine Country Gift Baskets

US/Silver Spring: Wine Country Gift Basket/Houdini Inc., a Fullerton, California establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Gift Baskets produced with Acorn Baking Company Raspberry Crème Filled Cookies from the American marketplace due to suspected mislabeling and/or mispackaging with consequential risks of undeclared Hazelnuts, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Gift Baskets are subject to this recall:

• #343 Wine Country Gift Basket branded Brownie, Cookie & Cake Assortment, sold with a gift batch/lot code of LC598716, LC605961 or LC607074
• #359 Wine Country Gift Basket branded Brownie, Cookie & Cake Sleigh, sold with a gift batch/lot code of LC602489
• #373 Wine Country Gift Basket branded Cookie, Brownie and Cake Winter Assortments, sold with abatch/lot code of LC601586

==> No barcodes, UPCs, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Wine Country Gift Basket products may have been marketed, distributed and sold in all US states, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the FDA,Wine Country Gift Baskets has recalled certain batch/lots of Gift Baskets produced with Acorn Baking Company Raspberry Crème Filled Cookies from the American marketplace due to suspected mislabeling and/or mispackaging with consequential risks of undeclared Hazelnuts. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Gift Baskets identified above.

In this case, this recall was initiated after it was discovered that some packages of the Raspberry Crème Filled Cookies sold as a component of the recalled Gift Baskets actually contain Hazelnut Crème Filled Cookies, a product that contains nuts that are undeclared.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Wine Country Gift Baskets and could be allergic to their Hazelnuts ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat Anaphylaxis.
