Food Recall: Malichita & Rudy Fresh Uncut Cantaloupe Fruit

Canada/Ottawa: Fruits et Légumes Gaétan Bono, Beauvais Ltée., Grade A Fruits and Vegetables Ltd., Botsis Fruits & Legumes Inc., City Wide Produce Ltd., The LID Company, Courchesne Larose Ltée., Thomas Fruits and Vegetables, Global MJL Ltée., Chenail Fruits et Légumes expand their existing recalls for certain batch/lots of Malichita branded Cantaloupes from the Canadian marketplace to include Ruby branded Cantaloupes.

The original recall was initiated due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Fresh Uncut Cantaloupe Fruit are subject to this recall:

• Malichita branded Fresh Uncut Cantaloupe Fruit, thought to have been sold between October 11, 2023 and November 14, 2023, inclusively, with a PLU of 4050.
  
• Rudy branded Fresh Uncut Cantaloupe Fruit, thought to have been sold between October 11, 2023 and November 14, 2023, inclusively, with a PLU of 4050.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Fresh Uncut Cantaloupes were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Quebec, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, Fruits et Légumes Gaétan Bono, Beauvais Ltée., Grade A Fruits and Vegetables Ltd., Botsis Fruits & Legumes Inc., City Wide Produce Ltd., The LID Company, Courchesne Larose Ltée., Thomas Fruits and Vegetables, Global MJL Ltée., Chenail Fruits et Légumes expand their existing recalls for certain batch/lots of Malichita branded Cantaloupes from the Canadian marketplace to include Ruby branded Cantaloupes.

As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Fresh Fruit products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Malichita and Rudy Fresh Uncut Cantaloupe Fruit, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
