Canada/Ottawa: Persia Foods, a Vancouver, British Columbia establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of NC branded Coconut Cake Powder from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Insect contamination and consequential risks of bacterial infection, choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and sepsis, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Coconut Cake Powder products are subject to this recall:

  • NC branded Coconut Cake Powder, sold in 500 gram packages with a best-before code of 01/05/2024 and a UPC of 6 260333 800416

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Cake Powder products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian province of British Columbia, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Logo - Canadian Food Inspection Agency ("CFIA")According to the CFIA, Persia Foods has recalled certain batch/lots of NC branded Coconut Cake Powder from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Insect contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Coconut Cake Powder identified above.

In general, if insect, glass, plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled NC branded Coconut Cake Powder, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial infection, choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and sepsis.
