Food Recall: Jabsons Assorted Chikkis Confectionery

Canada/Ottawa: Everest Traders Inc., a Mississauga, Ontario establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Jabsons branded Assorted Chikkis Confectionery from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected metal fragment contamination and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction/perforation and sepsis, all serious health and safety hazards, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Confectionery products are subject to this recall:

• Jabsons branded Assorted Chikkis Confectionery, sold in 400 gram yellow, red and white packages with a packed on date code of FEB 02, 2023, a best-before: date code of May 01, 2024, a batch/lot designation of CN55 [EXPORT PACK] and a UPC of 8 904067 705194

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation.

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Jabsons Assorted Chikkis Confectionery products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, Everest Traders Inc. has recalled certain batch/lots of Jabsons branded Assorted Chikkis Confectionery from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected metal fragment contamination . As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Confectionery products identified above.

In general, if glass, plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Jabsons branded Assorted Chikkis Confectionery, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction/perforation and sepsis.
