Product Recall: Mattel Fisher-Price Thomas & Friends Toys

Australia/Canberra: Mattel Pty Ltd, a Richmond, Victoria establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Fisher-Price Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway Troublesome Truck & Crates and Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway Troublesome Truck & Paint Children’s Toys from the Australian marketplace due to reported failure to comply with Australia’s Mandatory Standard for Toys for Children up to and including thirty-six (36) months of age and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction/perforation and sepsis, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Wooden Children’s Toy products are subject to this recall:

• Thomas & Friends Wooden Toy Train Cars for children aged two (2) years and over. Each Train Car has a connector containing a high-powered magnet that connects one train carriage to the next train, and a product code or either HBJ89 or HBJ90

==> No barcodes, APNs, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the ACCC, Mattel Pty has recalled certain batch/lots of Fisher-Price Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway Troublesome Truck & Crates and Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway Troublesome Truck & Paint Children’s Toys from the Australian marketplace due to reported failure to comply with Australia’s Mandatory Standard for Toys for Children up to and including 36 months of age. As a direct result of this suspected defect, you should not let your child play with or near the recalled Toys.

In general, if glass, plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

If a child swallows more than one small high powered Magnet, components of these Toys can stick together across the walls of the child’s intestine or other digestive tissue, which can lead to internal injuries and even death. These Magnets may need emergency surgical intervention to remove. Further, the Magnets may pose a choking hazard to young children due to small parts. Even post ingestion, survivors can have long-term health consequences requiring medical care and rehabilitation.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Fisher-Price Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway Troublesome Truck & Crates and Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway Troublesome Truck & Paint Children’s Toys, please do not let your child play with or near them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund or follow the instructions found at http://www.service.mattel.com to receive a full refund.
