Vehicle Recall: New Flyer XD35, XD40, XN35 & XN40 Buses

US/Washington: As of Saturday, November 4, 2023, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”), a division of the US Department of Transportation, posted a total of eighty-two (82) vehicle, tire, accessory or other automotive-related product recalls this past month. Among the eighty-two (82) recalls the NHTSA announced in October came news of the following:

New Flyer of America, Inc., a Crookston, Minnesota establishment and a subsidiary of New Flyer (part of the NFI Group) of Winnipeg, Manitoba has recalled an estimated 2,351 model year 2019-2024 XD35, XD40, XN35 and XN40 Transit Buses marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Power Train – Transmission may separate from Driveshaft

NHTSA Safety Notification 23V722000 reports the Transmission Yoke may separate, resulting in Driveshaft separation and a sudden loss of drive power.

According to the NHTSA, a sudden loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

Proposed Remedy:
New Flyer will work with the equipment manufacturer, Allison Transmission Inc., to inspect, and if necessary, tighten loose Transmission Yoke Bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 30, 2023.
