Among the seventy-three (73) recalls the NHTSA has announced in October comes news of the following:

Logo - Chrysler (FCA US LLCChrysler (FCA US LLC), an Auburn Hills, Michigan establishment and a subsidiary of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV of Amsterdam, Netherlands has recalled an estimated 4,660 model year 2023-2024 Dodge Hornet and Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Sport Utility Vehicles (“SUVs”) marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Back Over Prevention – Pedestrian Alert Siren not connected in apparent contravention of US FMVSS 141

NHTSA Safety Notification 23V696000 reports the Pedestrian Alert Siren may be missing or disconnected and fail to alert pedestrians when the vehicle is in REVERSE gear. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 141, “Minimum Sound Requirements for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles”.

According to the NHTSA, failure to alert pedestrians when backing up increases the risk of consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Dodge and Alfa Romeo Dealers will inspect the Rear Pedestrian Siren Connection and, if necessary, secure and/or replace the Connector or Siren, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 6, 2023.
