Vehicle Recall: Hyundai Kona SUVs

Canada/Ottawa: Transport Canada, an Ottawa, Ontario regulatory and safety authority, recalls certain model year 2024 Hyundai Kona Sport Utility Vehicles (“SUVs”) marketed, sold and delivered in Canada.

On certain Hyundai Kona vehicles, the rear Outboard Seat Belt Retractors may not have been manufactured correctly.

If this defect occurs, the vehicle’s Seat Belts may not extend and/or retract correctly, as appropriate. A Seat Belt that doesn’t work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

==> No VINs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

Proposed Remedy:
Hyundai Canada will notify affected vehicle owners by mail to advise you to take your vehicle to an Authorized Dealership to inspect the left and right-Rear Seat Belt Retractors, and replace them if necessary.

Hyundai recommends that if you hear a noise when extending the Seat Belt or are unable to extend it, you should not transport a passenger in that seat, and you should contact a Dealer immediately to have the vehicle inspected.
