Vehicle Recall: Kia Borrego SUVs

Among the forty-six (46) recalls the NHTSA has announced in October comes news of the following:

Kia Motors America (“Kia”), an Irvine, California establishment and a subsidiary of Kia Motors Corporation of Seoul, South Korea, has recalled an estimated 22,768 model year 2009-2014 Kia Borrego Sport Utility Vehicles (“SUVs”) marketed, sold and delivered in the United States

Recall Category: Structure – Headliner Plate detachment

NHTSA Safety Notification 23V692000 reports the vehicle’s Headliner Plates may not be secured properly. If this defect occurs, it can result in the Plates detaching in the event of a Side Curtain Air Bag deployment.

According to the NHTSA, a Headliner Plate that detaches during a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event may cause serious consequential injury and/or life-changing results.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Kia Dealers will secure the Headliner Plates, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 30, 2023.

Owners may contact Kia Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-333-4542 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) for more information. Kia’s designation for this recall is SC286.
