Food Recall: Kandy Fresh Cantaloupe Fruit

Canada/Ottawa: Gordon Food Services – North American Produce Sales, a Milton, Ontario establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Kandy branded Fresh Cantaloupe from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Fresh Fruit products are subject to this recall:

• Kandy branded Fresh Cantaloupe, sold in fifteen (15)-count cases with a batch/lot of 804918 and a PLU of 4050

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Kandy branded Cantaloupe products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, Gordon Food Service has recalled certain batch/lots of Kandy branded Fresh Cantaloupe from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Fresh Fruit Products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Kandy branded Cantaloupe products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Salmonellosis.
