Canada/Ottawa: Monster Energy Canada Ltd., a Toronto, Ontario establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Monster Energy branded Ultra Sunrise Energy Drink from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected can coating delamination and plastic fragment contamination with consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction/perforation and sepsis, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Caffeinated Energy Drinks are subject to this recall:

  • Monster Energy branded Ultra Sunrise Energy Drink, sold in 473 ml metal cans with a date code of SE3024WE, NO1124WE, DE0924WE, JA0625WE, FE0325WE, MR1025WE, MR3125WE, AL2825WE, MA2625WE, JN3025WE or JL0725WE with a UPC of 0 7084702110 0

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation.

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Caffeinated Energy Drinks were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces and territories of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan and Yukon, although it is always possible these beverage products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Logo - Canadian Food Inspection Agency ("CFIA")According to the CFIA, Monster Energy Canada recalls certain batch/lots of Monster Energy branded Ultra Sunrise Energy Drink from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected can coating delamination and plastic fragment contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Caffeinated Energy Drinks identified above.

In general, if glass, plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Monster Energy branded Ultra Sunrise Energy Drink, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction/perforation and sepsis.
