Among the forty-nine (49) recalls the NHTSA announced in September comes news of the following:

Hyundai Motor America (“Hyundai”), a Fountain Valley, California establishment and a subsidiary of Hyundai Motors of Seoul, South Korea, has recalled an estimated 1,642,551 model year 2011-2015 Hyundai Elantra, Genesis Coupe, Sonata Hybrid, 2012-2015 Accent, Azera, Veloster, 2013-2015 Elantra Coupe, Santa Fe, 2014-2015 Equus, 2010-2012 Veracruz, 2010-2013 Tucson, 2015 Tucson Fuel Cell, and 2013 Santa Fe Sport Sedans and SUVs marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Service Brakes, Hydraulic – ABS Unit may cause Engine Compartment fire

NHTSA Safety Notification 23V651000 reports the Anti-Lock Brake System (“ABS”) Module may leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short. If this defect occurs, it can result in an Engine Compartment fire while parked or driving.

According to the NHTSA, an Engine Compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury, explosion, burns and/or smoke inhalation with consequential life-changing or life-ending results.

Proposed Remedy:

Authorized Hyundai Dealers will replace the ABS Fuse, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 21, 2023.

Owners may contact Hyundai Customer Service toll-free at 1-855-371-9460 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) for more information. Hyundai’s designation for this recall is 251.

==> Owner/operators of the recalled Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Azera, Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Elantra Coupe, Hyundai Equus, Hyundai Genesis Coupe, Hyundai Santa Fe, Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, Hyundai Veloster, Hyundai Tucson, Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell or Hyundai Veracruz vehicles are advised to park outside and away from structures, including garages, carports, sheds and car barns, until the recall repair is successfully completed and certified by the Authorized Dealer.
