US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Eagle Produce LLC, a Scottsdale, Arizona establishment, recalls an estimated 6,456 cases of Kandy branded Whole Uncut Cantaloupe Fruit from the American marketplace due to Salmonella contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Whole Uncut Cantaloupe Fruit products were thought to have been distributed between September 5, 2023 and September 16, 2023 and are subject to this recall:

  • Kandy Whole Uncut Cantaloupe Fruit, sold with a batch/lot of 797901, 797900 or 804918 and a SKU of 4050

==> No barcodes, UPCs, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Whole Uncut Cantaloupe Fruit products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the US states of California, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin as well as Washington DC, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Logo - US Food and Drug Administration ("FDA")According to the FDA, Eagle Produce LLC has recalled an estimated 6,456 cases of Kandy branded Whole Uncut Cantaloupe Fruit from the American marketplace due to Salmonella contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Cantaloupe Fruit identified above.

In this case, this recall was initiated after testing conducted on the Cantaloupe Fruit by the FDA found the possibility of Salmonella contamination.

Please note: while these Whole Uncut Cantaloupe Fruit products may be past their use-by dates, they may be in your freezers or storage chillers. If you have purchased these products during the time period ranging from August 15, 2023 and August 28, 2020, please check your refrigerators, chillers and/or freezers to ensure these food products have not been stored for future consumption. If found, these products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Kandy branded Whole Uncut Cantaloupe Fruit, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Fruit products to the store where you purchased them for a full refund.

If the affected Cantaloupe Fruit has been cut and stored for use, please scrub all contact surfaces (including all cutting boards, storage bowls and knives) with hot, soapy water to reduce chances of Salmonella spread. If you use household bleach to clean the implements involved, kindly ensure all surfaces are thoroughly washed, rinsed and dried before reuse.
