Among the forty-nine (49) recalls the NHTSA announced in September comes news of the following:

Logo - HyundaiHyundam Industrial Company (“Hyundam”), an Asan, South Korea establishment, is recalling an estimated 183,323 model year Fuel Pumps for Daimler, Hyundai and Mercedes-Benz marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Fuel System, Gasoline – Loss of drive power from Fuel Pump Failure

NHTSA Safety Notification 23E068000 reports the Impeller inside the Fuel Pump may deform, which can cause Fuel Pump failure. Please see the NHTSA recall report for a complete list of part numbers.

According to the NHTSA, Fuel Pump failure can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

Proposed Remedy:
Daimler, Hyundai and Mercedes Dealers will replace the Fuel Pump, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification.

  • Hyundai owners may contact Hyundai Customer Service toll-free at 1-855-371-9460 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) for more information.
  • Mercedes-Benz owners may contact MBUSA Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-367-6372 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) for more information.

Because these Fuel Pumps are OEM parts, you may not be aware your vehicle has been equipped with one. When in doubt, please consult your Owners Manual, your authorized Dealer and/or your vehicle’s Manufacturer.
