Canada FlagCanada/Ottawa: Ararat Trading (2002) Corp., a Mississauga, Ontario establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Ararat branded Tahina Spreads from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risks of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Tahina Spreads are subject to this recall:

  • Ararat branded Tahina Spreads, sold in 600 gram bottles with a production date code of 03.12.2021, an expiry date code of 03.12.2023, a batch/lot designation of 031221-01, a production code of TR-27-K-000027 and a UPC of 8 80002 40102 5

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Ararat branded Tahina Spreads were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Tahina Spread products identified above.

In this case, this recall was initiated due to possible Salmonella contamination.

Please note: while these Tahina Spread products may be close to or past their use-by dates, they may be in your freezers or storage chillers. If you have purchased these products during the time period ranging from March 2021 and September 2023, please check your refrigerators, chillers and/or freezers to ensure these food products have not been stored for future consumption. If found, these products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Ararat branded Tahina Spreads, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Salmonellosis.
