Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: Total Tools, a Port Melbourne Victoria establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Detroit 5 Metre 10 Amp Heavy Duty LED Indicator Extension Leads from the Australian marketplace due to suspected failure to comply with Australia’s Standard AS/NZS 3199:2020 Approval and Test Specification – Cord Extension Sets and consequential risks of burns, scalds, smoke inhalation, respiratory failure and/or cardiac system collapse, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Heavy Duty Extension Leads are subject to this recall:

  • Detroit 5 Metre 10 Amp Heavy Duty LED Indicator Extension Leads, consisting of five (5) metre orange and black coloured extension leads with a Detroit product designation of LA020C printed on the Plug and a Detroit designation of LA023C printed on the Socket.

==> No barcodes, APNs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Heavy Duty Extension Leads were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in all Australian states, although it is always possible these hardware products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Logo - Australian Competition & Consumer Commission ("ACCC")According to the ACCC, Total Tools has recalled certain batch/lots of Detroit 5 Metre 10 Amp Heavy Duty LED Indicator Extension Leads from the Australian marketplace due to suspected failure to comply with Australia’s Standard AS/NZS 3199:2020 Approval and Test Specification – Cord Extension Sets and consequential risks of burns, scalds, smoke inhalation, respiratory failure and/or cardiac system collapse. As a direct result of this suspected defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Extension Leads identified above.

In this case, this recall was initiated after it was reported that the product does not comply with the Australian standard AS/NZS 3199:2020 Approval and Test Specification – Cord Extension Sets. Specifically, the connections in the Extension Leads may come loose resulting in the Plug overheating and/or catching fire.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Detroit 5 Metre 10 Amp Heavy Duty LED Indicator Extension Leads, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 0-0-0, your closest hospital or emergency centre equipped to properly treat burns, scalds, smoke inhalation, respiratory failure and/or cardiac system collapse.
