Logo - Mazda North American Operation ("Mazda")Mazda North American Operation (“Mazda”), an Irvine, California establishment and a subsidiary of Mazda Motor Corporation of Hiroshima, Japan, has recalled an estimated 17,600 model year 2024 Mazda CX-90 Sport Utility Vehicles (“SUVs”) marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Forward Collision Avoidance, Back Over Prevention – Inaccurate Pedestrian Warning Sounds in apparent contravention of US FMVSS 141

NHTSA Safety Notification 23V553000 reports software in the Approaching Vehicle Audible System (“AVAS”) Information Sound Box (“ISB”) Amplifier may be missing, which can cause inaccurate, external pedestrian warning sounds. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 141, “Minimum Sound Requirements for Hybrid Electric Vehicles”.

According to the NHTSA, inaccurate external warning sounds may confuse pedestrians about the direction of an approaching vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.
