Canada/Ottawa: Les distributions Mindblow inc. “Mindblow”), a Quebec City, Quebec establishment, recalls scertain batch/lots of Mindblow Energy Drinks from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected non-permitted ingredients, including Mucuna Pruriens Extract (98% L-Dopa) contamination and consequential risks uncontrollable movements of the face, eyelids, mouth, tongue, neck, arms, hands, or legs; severe or persistent nausea or vomiting; an irregular heartbeat or fluttering in the chest; feeling lightheaded when standing quickly; and/or unusual changes in mood or behavior, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Energy Drinks are subject to this recall:

  • Mindblow branded Energy Drinks – Original Edition, sold in 473 mL cans with a UPC of 8 60006 52613 9
  • Mindblow branded Energy Drinks – Pink Lemonade, sold in 473 mL cans with a UPC of 8 60006 52611 5

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Mindblow Energy Drinks were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec, although it is always possible these drug products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Logo - Canadian Food Inspection Agency ("CFIA")According to the CFIA, Mindblow has recalled certain batch/lots of Mindblow Energy Drinks from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected non-permitted ingredients, including Mucuna Pruriens Extract (98% L-Dopa). As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Energy Drinks identified above.

In this case, this recall was initiated after it was suspected that the Mindblow Energy Drinks contain the drug Levodopa. L-Dopa, also known as Levodopa, is a prescription drug that is combined with other drug ingredients in anti-Parkinson’s medications.

L-Dopa should be used only under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional. Levodopa may interact with various drugs prescribed for high blood pressure, and should never be used by women who are pregnant, who plan to become pregnant or who are breastfeeding. In addition, it should also not be taken by people with Narrow Angle Glaucoma; untreated heart, liver, kidney, lung or hormonal diseases; a history of Melanoma; or those who should not take drugs such as Isoproterenol, Amphetamines or Epinephrine.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food or beverage poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Mindblow Energy Drinks, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat Levodopa contamination.
