Product Recall: IKEA TRIPPEVALS & HOPPVALS Blinds

Canada/Ottawa: IKEA Canada Ltd Partnership, a Burlington, Ontario establishment and a subsidiary of IKEA of Sweden AB, recalls an estimated 127,857 IKEA branded TRIPPEVALS and HOPPVALS Cellular Window Blinds from the Canadian marketplace due to failure to meet Canada’s Corded Window Coverings Regulations with consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and/or sepsis, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports this recall involves certain Corded Window Coverings, as follows:

• IKEA HOPPVALS Cellular Blinds, sold in Blue in 8 sizes with an IKEA SKU of 40480984, 10480985, 90480986, 70480987, 50480988, 50480993, 60480997 or 40480998
• IKEA HOPPVALS Cellular Blinds, sold in Grey in 8 sizes with an IKEA SKU of 80480958, 60480959, 40480960, 20480961, 480962, 80480963, 60480964 or 30480965
• IKEA HOPPVALS Cellular Blinds, sold in White in 8 sizes with an IKEA SKU of 50480950, 30480951, 10480952, 90480953, 70480954, 40480955, 20480956 or 480957
• IKEA TRIPPEVALS Cellular Blinds, sold in Light Grey in 11 sizes with an IKEA SKU of 80448534, 90448538, 10448537, 448533, 30448536, 50448535, 10480966, 90480967, 70480968, 50480969 or 30480970
• IKEA TRIPPEVALS Cellular Blinds, sold in White in 11 sizes with an IKEA SKU of 60506563, 10509724, 80509725, 60509726, 40509727, 40506564, 10506565, 90506566, 70506567, 20509728 or 509729

==> No manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Window Coverings were marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces, although it is always possible these Window Covering products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to Health Canada, IKEA Canada Ltd. has recalled an estimated 127,857 IKEA branded TRIPPEVALS and HOPPVALS Cellular Blinds from the Canadian marketplace due to failure to meet Canada’s Corded Window Coverings Regulations with consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and/or sepsis, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death

Health Canada has determined that the recalled Blinds do not meet the country’s Corded Window Coverings Products Regulations and therefore pose consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and/or sepsis.

In this case, Health Canada has determined that the design of the Window Coverings does not properly address the hazards of small parts that can present a choking hazard to young children. Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled IKEA Canada Window Coverings, please do not use them. Instead, kindly uninstall the Window Coverings, then contact the company to arrange and refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat strangulation, choking, respiratory failure, cardiac system collapse.
