Vehicle Recall: Kia Niro SUVs

US/Washington: As of Wednesday, August 9, 2023, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”), a division of the US Department of Transportation, has posted a total of thirty-three (33) vehicle, tire, accessory or other automotive-related product recalls this month. Among the thirty-three (33) recalls the NHTSA has announced in August comes news of the following:

Kia Motors America (“Kia”), an Irvine, California establishment and a subsidiary of Kia Motors Corporation of Seoul, South Korea, has recalled an estimated 121,411 model year 2017-2022 Kia Niro and 2018-2022 Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid Sport Utility Vehicles (“SUVs”) marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Power Train – Engine Compartment fire

NHTSA Safety Notification 23V534000 reports fluid may leak into the Printed Circuit Board inside the Hydraulic Clutch Actuator, which can result in an Engine Compartment fire.

According to the NHTSA, a vehicle fire increases the risk of consequential life-changing or life-ending results.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Kia America Dealers will will inspect and replace the Hydraulic Clutch Actuator as necessary and install a new fuse, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 29, 2023. Owners may contact Kia Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-333-4542 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) for more information. Kia’s designation for this recall is SC276.
