Product Recall: Danby 1500 Watt Space Heaters

Canada/Ottawa: Danby Products Limited, a Guelph, Ontario establishment, recalls an estimated 154 Danby branded 1500 Watt Space Heaters from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Power Cord breakage with consequential risks of burns, electric shock, scalds, smoke inhalation, respiratory failure and/or cardiac system collapse, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports the following Portable Space Heaters are subject to this recall:

• Danby 1500 Watt Space Heaters, sold in 11-inch (~28 cm) case with a model number of DBSH01113WD13, a manufacturing date of June 2022 and a UPC of 067638030205

Please consult the photograph above for details of the product’s packaging, design and retail presentation. Additional images of the recalled Portable Space Heaters can be found on the Web site above.

==> No regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Portable Space Heaters may have been marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the HCSC, Danby Products has recalled an estimated 154 Danby branded 1500 Watt Space Heaters from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Power Cord breakage with consequential risks of burns, electric shock, scalds, smoke inhalation, respiratory failure and/or cardiac system collapse, all serious health and safety hazards to people who utilize the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use.

In this case, this recall was initiated after the company received two (2) reports of “incidents” but no reports of injuries in Canada.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Danby branded 1500 Watt Space Heaters, please do not use them. Instead, unplug the recalled appliance and contact Danby to provide a photo showing the unit’s cord has been cut in order to receive a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat burns, electric shock, scalds, smoke inhalation, respiratory failure and/or cardiac system collapse.
