Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: SC Johnson & Son, a Lane Cove, New South Wales establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Drano Max Gel Bathroom Drain Cleaner from the Australian marketplace due to suspected cap sealing failure and consequential risks of caustic chemical leakage, skin irritation, inhalation, poisoning, blocked airways, respiratory collapse and/or pneumonia, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Household Chemicals are subject to this recall:

  • Drano Max Gel Bathroom Drain Cleaner, sold in 1.2 litre orange bottles with a batch/lot code of 664154, a SKU of 318263, a use-by date code of 31 Oct 2024 and a UPC 9300622003658

==> No barcodes, APNs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Household Chemicals were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in all Australian states, although it is always possible these cleaning products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Logo - Aunstralian Competition & Consumer Commissio ("ACCC")According to the ACCC, SC Johnson & Son has recalled certain batch/lots of Drano Max Gel Bathroom Drain Cleaner from the Australian marketplace due to suspected cap sealing failure. As a direct result of this suspected defect, you should not use recalled Household Chemical products identified above.

In this case, this recall was initiated after the cap of bottles may not seal properly, and result in Drain Cleaner leakage. Leakage may be found near the cap and on the outside of the bottle.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Drano Max Gel Bathroom Drain Cleaner, please do not use it or store it for future use. Instead, please visit https://www.dranomaxgelrecallau.com to check if your product is affected by providing the batch code and UPC. Follow instructions on the Web site to safely dispose of the product and to request a full refund.

Disposal of this product must be in accordance with local municipal hazardous waste requirements to protect the drinking water supply and the ecosystem.

Always use appropriate personal protective equipment (“PPE”) when working with strong chemicals, including gloves, a suitable respiratory mask and protective eyewear.
